Digital transformation through electronic labelling
Gedeon Richter - one of the leading companies in the pharmaceutical industry of poland- has been optimising and digitalising its processes for many years. The introduction of an electronic labelling system exemplifies the need for continuous process improvement, both to increase efficiency and to make operations safer.
Goal: Greater security and less paper consumption
The aim was to find a solution to eliminate traditional paper labels, which were time-consuming and error-prone to update. Manual label management increased the risk of compromising the quality of the process. The companies S&K Solutions and e-shelf-labels were happy to provide advice and assistance in this challenge.
After
Solution: SoluM's Newton range of electronic labels, including gateways and support.
To meet the challenges, Gedeon Richter decided to implement electronic labels. In the first phase, Newton labels were implemented on a trial basis in the Weighing Room area. Newton labels in 7.5 and 4.2 inch sizes were used to replace paper labels for monitoring the status of production facilities (production rooms, equipment, equipment and ancillary rooms). The e-ink labels provide important information such as the status of rooms and equipment, production data of manufactured products, data on cleaning and disinfection dates in real time. The system was integrated into the customer's existing IT system via an API interface, enabling seamless communication and efficient data exchange. Thanks to regular support from the e-shelf-labels team, the installation went smoothly.
Expansion due to good performance
Significant benefits have already been achieved in the early stages of implementation.
Following a positive evaluation of the system's performance in the test area (system stability, no recorded errors), the system was extended with a further 180 electronic labels
and ten Newton Gateways for optimised data transfer.
- Significant reduction in the risk of labelling errors, resulting in a safer process.
- Increased operational efficiency through automation of label management.
- Save time and resources by eliminating manual preparation of
and updating of paper labels. - Reduce environmental impact by eliminating paper labels.
The implementation of electronic labelling in a pharmaceutical company is a prime example of how technological innovation can significantly improve operational processes, enhance safety and contribute to sustainability. Gedeon Richter not only achieved its efficiency and safety goals, but also set new standards in pharmaceutical process management.
